I am a self-confessed 360 fan boy. It has not always been this way, I was a Playstation man up until this generation. But with the delays to the Playstation 3, and the steep asking price, I ended up spending a respectable £300 on a shiny new Xbox 360. Since then, I’ve never looked back. But I always wondered, what would have happened if I had waited, saved, and gone the Sony route?

Well, thinking along these lines inspired me to ask fellow Gamer, Geek, and TDard Mark “Breener96” Breen about his recent acquisition of a 360. Up until Christmas 2010, Mark has been a Playstation 3 gamer, and I was interested too hear about his journey across the gaming bridge.
Before you owned a 360, what consoles did you do your gaming on?
Breener: I owned (of this generation) a Wii. My brother, however, owned a PS3 and a laptop that we have some games on.

In the run up to getting your 360, what were you most looking forward to?
Breener: I was most looking forward not something that is console exclusive, but to having a HD console of my own! As far as games and things go, I was looking forward to Halo with friends. Apparently, I know a lot more people on Live than PSN!
How do you feel about having to pay for Xbox Live?
Breener: I think that the paying is worth it. The whole interface of Live is just really well constructed.
How would you compare playing online on 360 vs playing online on the PS3?
Breener: When it comes to the online aspect, I find Live much better than PSN. An example of a stand-out feature that makes it better would be the cross-game voice chat, an incredibly useful thing. And the download times are so much better!
If you got burgled and all your consoles stolen, and you could only afford to buy one new console, which one would you get?
Breener: If the consoles themselves got stolen? I'd buy back the PS3. My brother and I have both built up a fine collectionof games as opposed to my two on the Xbox.

Just to be fair, I have a ‘control sample’, or in other words an example of the same thing from the opposite end of the spectrum. Meet Mark “SERE Recon” Guereque. He is a seasoned Xbox 360 gamer. Let’s see his reactions to the same questions.
Before you owned a 360, what consoles did you do your gaming on?
SERE Recon: I previously owned a Gamecube and a PS2. With which I played Legend of Zelda and Devil May Cry 3 obsessively.
When did you get your 360, and in the run up to getting your 360, what were you most looking forward to?
SERE Recon: I bought the 360 for myself on my 14th birthday. Truthfully I was most excited about the fact that I could turn it on without getting up. Before I went to sleep I would have the controller right next to my bed and wake up to play games without ever having to leave my bed.
How do you feel about having to pay for Xbox Live?
SERE Recon: Xbox Live is a good service provided for people who want access to other people and other services, for how small the fee is I appreciate it very much, especially how it continues to advance to offering other goodies. I feel that it earns what we pay.

SERE Recon: I haven't played enough online on another console to make a good comparison.
If you got burgled and all your consoles stolen, and you could only afford to buy one new console, which one would you get?
SERE Recon: It would have to be an AK-47 so I could find the person who stole my stuff and take it all back including their stuff and leave them naked in the middle of the desert. I'm an American who lives in a state where everyone is a gun owner, taking my stuff back is my response to theft.
So to me, it still looks like I have the best gaming console for my needs. I would be hapy with either console, and I certainly don't think either is "better" than the other. When it comes to the next generation an informed choice will need to be made based on what either system offers; I would not just blindly go down either the Microsoft or Sony route. But for now, the 360 provides the social gaming experience that I personally look for in a console.
